Congratulations to Ariella Atencio, a 2024 DOE SCGSR Recipient

October 16, 2024

We are pleased to announce that Ariella Atencio, a PhD candidate in physics, was selected as a 2024 US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) awardee. The SCGSR program provides graduate thesis research opportunities at DOE laboratories to outstanding U.S. graduate students to prepare them for STEM careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission. Ariella will be doing research at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Congratulations, Ariella!

Ariella is a graduate student at Drexel University studying to get a PhD in physics. She is currently in her third year at Drexel; she received her master's degree from Temple University and her bachelor's degree from Rutgers University (where she graduated with high honors). Her work is on experimental particle physics, currently the project nEXO which aims to observe neutrinoless double beta decay to gain some insight on the neutrino.

The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program provides supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to pursue part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE laboratory in areas that address scientific challenges central to the Office of Science mission. The research projects are expected to advance the graduate awardees’ overall doctoral research and training while providing access to the expertise, resources, and capabilities available at the DOE national laboratories.
